GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG

Wie in den letzten drei Sommern präsentiert der in Berlin lebende argentinische Maler Mariano Rinaldi Goñi in Berlin und Bayreuth während der Richard-Wag­ner-Festspiele unter dem Titel „Götterdämmerung“ eine Ausstellung von Bil­dern, in denen Motive aus den Opern Wagners gleichzeitig auf die ihnen zu Grunde liegende nordische Mythologie zurückgeführt und in zeitgemäßer Form präsentiert werden. Nach den Ausstellungen „Walküren“ (2006/2007), „Rhein­gold“ (2008) und „Nornen“ (2009) schließt Goñi seinen Ring-Zyklus nun mit der „Götterdämmerung“ vorläufig ab. Die Ausstellung in der Walküre Porzellanfabrik Bayreuth wird wieder von einem Rahmenprogramm verschiedener Veranstal­tungen, Aufführungen, Performances und Führungen durch die Ausstellung be­gleitet, vor allem in Zusammenarbeit mit der Band Vudú da Mucama, die in ihren Performances Metal-Musik mit Wagnerischem Operngesang und Ballett zu einem neuartigen Kunsterlebnis verbindet.

Goñi beschäftigt sich in seinen Bildern schon seit Jahren mit Themen aus Wag­ners Opern und der nordischen Mythologie. Nach der Ausstellung „Walküren“ 2006 in der Galerie Deschler in Berlin, die durch Katharina Wagner und Hartmut Koschyk MdB eröffnet wurde, begleiteten die Bilder die erste komplette „Ring“-Aufführung in Polen seit dem 2. Weltkrieg, die unter der Regie von Hans-Peter Lehmann in der Breslauer Jahrhunderthalle stattfand. Schließlich war die Idee geboren, die Bilder zum Leben zu erwecken und die Ausstellung mit einer Per­formance zu begleiten. Gemeinsam mit Musikern, Schauspielerinnen und Sän­gern entwickelte Goñi 2007 das Performance-Projekt „Walküre-Fragment / Walhallstafel“. Ausgehend von der Mythologie der Götterlieder der Edda und der Oper Richard Wagners entstand ein Fragment, welches das Wesentliche der Handlung destillierte und mit augenzwinkernder Dramatik und selbstironi­schem Humor eine neue Sicht darauf eröffnete. Goñis Bilder wurden während der Bayreuther Festspiele 2007 im Richard Wagner Museum in der Villa Wahn­fried, dem Neuen Rathaus Bayreuth und der Orangerie im Neuen Schloss in Bayreuth ausgestellt, die Performance kam in Berlin und Bayreuth zur Auffüh­rung. Im Sommer 2008 entwickelte Goñi ge­meinsam mit dem Bariton Felix Bru­der die Symbiose aus Malerei und Musik mit dem „Rheingold“ weiter. An meh­reren Abenden wurden die Besucher eingela­den, zu den Aufführungen des Rhein­gold-Fragmentes an der Walhallstafel Platz zu nehmen, während ein En­semble von jungen Sängern und Schauspielern die Abende gestaltete. 2009 kehrte Goñi mit der Ausstellung „Nornen“ nach Bayreuth zurück, abermals be­gleitet von einem vielfältigen Rahmenprogramm aus Fotoausstellungen und Performances. Mit der „Götterdämmerung“ wird der Zyklus dieses Jahr fortge­setzt und zu einem vorläufigen Höhepunkt und Ab­schluss gebracht.

Twilight of the Gods

For the fourth summer in a row and again concurrent to the Richard-Wagner-Festival in Bayreuth, the Berlin-based Argentinean painter Mariano Rinaldi Goñi will present an exhibition of paintings of themes taken from Wagner’s operas as well as Nordic mythology and reinterpreted in a contemporary manner. This year’s exhibition, with the title “Götterdämmerung” (“Twilight of the Gods”) will be in two parts, one to be presented at the Walküre Porzellanfabrik in Bayreuth, the other one at the Galerie Deschler in Berlin. Following the exhibitions “Val­kyries” (2006/2007), „Rheingold“ (2008) and „Nornen“ (2009), “Twilight of the Gods” concludes his own personal “Ring” cycle. The exhibition at the Walküre Porzellanfabrik in Bayreuth will again be accompanied by various events and performances, particularly in collaboration with the band Vudú da Mucama, whose combination of metal music, Wagnerian opera singing, and ballet prom­ises an entirely new art experience.

Goñi has been exploring themes from Richard Wagner’s operas and from Nordic mythology for years. After the successful exhibition “Valkyries” at the Galerie Deschler in 2006 opened by Katharina Wagner and Hartmut Koschyk MP, the paintings accompanied the first complete performance of the “Ring” in Poland after the Second World War, directed by Hans-Peter Lehmann and staged at the Century Hall in Wroclaw. Finally the idea was born to give life to the images and have performances accompany the exhibition. In collaboration with musi­cians, actors, and singers, Goñi in 2007 developed the performance project “Valkyrie Fragment / Valhall Table.” Based on the mythology of the world of the gods described in the poems of the Edda and on Wagner’s opera a fragment was created that distilled the essence of the plot and opened a new perspective on it rife with tongue-in-cheek dramatics and self-ironical humor. During the Bayreuth Richard-Wagner-Festival 2007, Goñi’s paintings were exhibited at the Richard Wagner Museum in the Villa Wahnfried, the New City Hall of Bayreuth, and the Orangerie of the Neues Schloss in Bayreuth. The performance was presented to great acclaim in Berlin and in Bayreuth. In the Summer of 2008 Goñi, in collaboration with the baritone Felix Bruder, further developed this symbiosis of painting and music with “Rheingold.” On several evenings the au­dience was invited to feast at the Valhall Table while an ensemble of young singers and actors were performing the “Rheingold” fragment. In 2009 Goñi re­turned to Bayreuth with his exhibition “Nornen,” again accompanied by a rich program of photo exhibitions and performances. This year’s “Twilight of the Gods” continues the cycle and brings it to a preliminary climax and conclusion.
